It's been on our "goal list" for SIX years now - The Devil's Punchbowl. After we climbed to the top of Mt. Baldy in 2006 we felt empowered and said, "Next we shall hike around the Devil's Punchbowl!" And here we are, SIX YEARS LATER, we finally made it - with an 18 month in tow.
By the way, hiking with a toddler. Hard.
He didn't want to stay in his carrier, and when we put him down he would walk in every direction BUT the right way. We only did the one-mile loop, and it took us well over an hour. I heard somewhere you are only supposed to hike as many miles as years they are... So, that sounds about right. One year old, one mile... and that was a stretch.
The park is beautiful, so picturesque. It's very well maintained and impressive. I love desert chaparral: the dry heat, the blazing sun, the brush, the prickly agave, the cactus, the desert flowers, the piƱon pines. It's also a great family place, they have a neat nature center with owls, snakes, bees, ants and, you know, nature stuff.

We miss you all, and the beautiful California scenery.
Okay, I obviously HAVE to go there as soon as possible.
