Homegrown
No joke.
Store bought tomatoes ain't got nothing on homegrown tomatoes. I don't think I even knew what a real tomato tasted like before these. Heirloom Brandywines... incredible.
I bet people who actually know how to grow tomatoes grow even more amazing ones... Our tomatoes are great, but I don't know much about growing them. But, hey, at least we got some this year!

we just finally tended to our (first) (late) garden and i hacked the sh*t out of the tomato plant, which had gone *crazy*. hope it was the right thing to do! :D

sing it, sista. grocery tomats have NOTHING on homegrown tomats. a good trick for especially flavor-packed fruits: once the actual tomatoes start growing do two things: a) prune the sh*t out of any growth that doesn't have new flowers or fruit and b) cut back on water quite a bit. That will help your plants concentrate on fruit production, concentrate the flavor and prevent the fruits from splitting.
oh, and GORGEOUS PICTURES. and i love the new header. also, do you know your iced coffee recipe changed my life? seriously. big hugs from a fellow desert-lover. xo.
Ain't that the truth! And fun to see young and less serious Guy Clark.
Haha that's a funky little tomato! Homegrown is so so so much better than store bought. It's like two totally different specimens!
Amanda! Your baby is the most beautiful little boy! Also, I wanted to let you know that Zach and I have recently switched to a mostly vegetarian (plus fish) diet--and so your blog has been awesome in giving me recipe ideas. I made the lentil walnut burgers you posted about tonight. So yummy!
those tomatoes look oh so yummy! ours got scorched this summer as we were gone for 6+ weeks...so jealous of yours!
