I'm loving trying new salads. Thank you to everyone who had suggestions - I plan on trying them all over the Summer. It's fun, it's fun in a nerdy food type of way. I've been having a salad for lunch everyday, I typically use whatever we have on hand from our teeny garden, from friends' gardens and from our CSA box. My friend Cait introduced me to something that rocked my salad world: a salad with an egg on top! What! Where have I been!? It's so good.
This week we are taking care of our friends Rob & Lisa's chickens and in turn we get to enjoy the eggs... I'm telling you, fresh eggs, from healthy backyard chickens = amazing. You can taste the difference. The yolk is darker and stands taller. I want chickens so badly. I'm not sure it's the best idea for where we are living because our landlord is somewhat of a micro-manager, but someday, I'd love to raise chickens!!
Happy Monday to all.

I want my own chikens someday too. My grandparents had a couple when they lived in the countryside in Chile. The eggs were amazing and really fun to look at as a child.
this is my favourite way to have salad too. especially since i don't eat meat- easy way to get some protein and b2!
The salad looks delicious! Salads are one of my favorite parts of summer!
Hi! I just found your blog, it's lovely! It's so nice to find another CSA box experimenter. I'm having a hard time finishing up all the great produce before the next week rolls around. I'm thinking of investing in an extra freezer so I can enjoy all of this good stuff in the winter, too!
you should definitely raise chickens - it's so easy, they are totally low maintenance and so much fun... and the payback is the best eggs ever. i've had eight chickens for the past 6 years, first in miracle mile, now in echo park.
oh, i saw your comment on 101cookbooks and took note because we're members of the south central csa as well - small world, hey? nice to meet you.
hey debi! that's great that you raise chickens in the city! I really hope we can soon... sooner than later. Did you build your own coop?
The world is small! Isn't the South Central CSA great? We love it. Every week its a challenge to use it all up, but it's fun. The only thing I'm having a hard time with right now are the beets... BEETS!! I think I'm going to juice some tomorrow... :)
yes yes! i LOVE farm healthy eggs!!! they are hard to find near me, and when found, extremely expensive. I'm so jealous of your lunch!
